How to install your eSIM

⏱ Takes about 5 minutes

You need the QR code from our email and an internet connection (Wi-Fi is fine). Best install the eSIM at home, one or two days before your trip.

Check first

iPhone

  1. Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
  2. Tap “Use QR Code” and scan the code.
Without scanning: “Enter Details Manually” and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the email.
  3. Give the eSIM a name, for example “Travel”.
  4. Keep your US line as “Default Line”. For “Cellular Data” choose the travel eSIM and turn off “Allow Cellular Data Switching”.

Android

  1. Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → “Add SIM” or “Download eSIM”. On Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM.
  2. Scan the QR code or enter the details manually.
  3. Select the eSIM for mobile data.

At your destination

  1. Turn on data roaming for the travel eSIM. That is correct and costs nothing extra.
  2. Turn data roaming off for your US line, otherwise your carrier may charge a daily roaming fee.
  3. Wait until the network appears. Switching flight mode on and off can help.

eSIM FAQ

What is an eSIM?

A SIM card in digital form. Instead of inserting a plastic card, you scan a QR code and your phone downloads the plan. Your US line stays on the phone.

How long does installation take?

About 5 minutes. You need Wi-Fi or mobile data for it.

When should I install the eSIM?

Ideally at home, one or two days before your trip, on Wi-Fi. At your destination you then only turn on data roaming for the eSIM.

Can I make calls with the eSIM?

The eSIM is meant for mobile data. Calls and chats work via WhatsApp, FaceTime and similar apps. Your US number stays reachable for iMessage and WhatsApp. Regular calls and texts to your US line may trigger your carrier's roaming fees, so keep roaming off for it.

Does the eSIM work in other countries?

No, it is valid for the country you buy it for.

Can I keep my US line active?

Yes. Modern phones can use two lines side by side. Your US line stays installed, you just choose the travel eSIM for cellular data.

What happens if I delete the eSIM?

It is usually gone for good and cannot be installed again. So only delete it after your trip.
